Shinto is historically the state religion of Japan.

Today, Buddhism has taken over as the predominant faith, but Shinto still remains a significan part of the Japanese spirtiual society. Many Shinto traditions and ceremonies are still practiced today and many people follow a successful marriage of Buddhist and Shinto belief.
